History+
The foundation of Chorin Monastery took place in 1258 by Askanian margraves. It developed into an important center on the northern edge of the Askanian sphere of influence. The monastic use ended with its dissolution and secularization in 1542/1543. Subsequently, the complex fell into disrepair until the early 19th century, when stabilization measures and partial reconstructions of the buildings were carried out under the direction of Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
