The monastery was founded in 1631 at the initiative of Archdeacon Johann Wolfgang Hueber. Originally dedicated to Saint Bonaventure, the complex was later consecrated to the Mother of God. In the course of secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1802. After its dissolution, the monastery church temporarily served as a warehouse before the monastery buildings found a new purpose in 1856 as a girls' secondary school under the direction of the Poor School Sisters.
