Kloster Burglengenfeld

The founding of Burglengenfeld Monastery occurred around the year 1700, with construction beginning in 1704. It was dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and inhabited by Capuchin monks. For over a century, the convent shaped the religious and social life of the region until its dissolution during the secularization in 1802. Following its dissolution, the monastery buildings were repurposed; the church temporarily served as a carriage shed, while apartments were established in the convent buildings. In 1955, the Protestant parish acquired the former church building and consecrated it in 1959 as the Christuskirche.

Burglengenfeld Monastery is situated in the Bavarian town of Schwandorf, nestled within the landscape of Eastern Bavaria. It is located at an elevation of approximately 360 meters above sea level.

Today, the former monastery church serves as the Protestant Christuskirche. The other monastery buildings have been repurposed, though their original architectural substance remains discernible.
