Blaubeuren Monastery, a former Benedictine abbey, is situated in the Alb-Donau region of Baden-Württemberg. Dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the complex is characterized by its late medieval architecture and today houses an evangelical seminary and a grammar school.

History+

The monastery of Blaubeuren was founded around 1085. It was settled by Benedictine monks and initially prospered before experiencing a period of decline in the 14th and early 15th centuries. After the sale of the monastic Vogtland to Württemberg in 1447, the monastery regained significance. Under Abbot Heinrich III. Fabri, also considered a co-founder of the University of Tübingen, the complex was extensively rebuilt from 1466 onwards. This construction phase, which lasted until 1501, shaped the current appearance of the buildings. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved in 1535 and became the property of the Dukes of Württemberg. Subsequently, it was transformed into an evangelical seminary.
