Blaubeuren Abbey

The monastery of Blaubeuren was founded around 1085. It was settled by Benedictine monks and initially prospered before experiencing a period of decline in the 14th and early 15th centuries. After the sale of the monastic Vogtland to Württemberg in 1447, the monastery regained significance. Under Abbot Heinrich III. Fabri, also considered a co-founder of the University of Tübingen, the complex was extensively rebuilt from 1466 onwards. This construction phase, which lasted until 1501, shaped the current appearance of the buildings. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved in 1535 and became the property of the Dukes of Württemberg. Subsequently, it was transformed into an evangelical seminary.

Blaubeuren Monastery is located in the town of Blaubeuren in the Alb-Donau district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 516 meters above sea level.

In the 21st century, the late medieval monastery buildings serve as a location for a classical grammar school and the Evangelical Seminaries of Maulbronn and Blaubeuren. Visitors can explore the cloister, the monastery church, and a museum on the premises.
