Birkenfeld Abbey
Birkenfeld Abbey is a former Cistercian nunnery in Neustadt an der Aisch in Bavaria, in the Diocese of Würzburg.
Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the monastery was founded in the 13th century by Frederick III of Zollern, Burgrave of Nuremberg, and his wife Helena, Duchess of Saxony. One abbess was Anna of Nuremberg. In 1544, the monastery was taken over by Margrave Albrecht Alcibiades. In the 19th century, the monastery buildings served as a quarry. Only the monastery church remained of the former complex.
