Beuerberg Abbey

The monastery of Beuerberg was founded in 1121 by the Counts Otto, Eberhard, and Conrad of Iringsburg. It was entrusted to the Augustinian canons and dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. Following a period of financial difficulties in the 16th century, the original three-nave basilica collapsed in 1628 during renovation attempts. Between 1630 and 1635, the collegiate church was rebuilt following the model of St. Michael's Church in Munich. The monastery buildings underwent reconstruction in 1729. In the course of secularization, the Augustinian canonry was dissolved in 1803. The monastery church became a parish church, and the monastery buildings passed into private ownership. From 1835, Salesian Sisters took over the property. They operated a girls' school and a mothers' convalescent home there until 1938, later a retirement home for seniors. After the death of the last abbess in 2013, the remaining sisters left the monastery in 2014.

Kloster Beuerberg is located in the village of Beuerberg, a district of Eurasburg, in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen region of Bavaria. It stands at an elevation of approximately 615 meters above sea level.

The monastic complex was acquired by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising in 2014 and is being converted into an ecclesiastical seminar and cultural center. A restaurant in the former refectory is already open. Since 2016, the monastery has also served as an exhibition venue for special exhibitions by the Diözesanmuseum Freising, which thematically explore monastic life and other cultural aspects.
