Sankt Josef

The site's origins trace back to a castle from the year 1000. In 1862, the Sisters of the Visitation of Holy Mary, an order of Salesian Sisters, acquired the property from Carl Theodor Graf Geldern-Egmont. A community of 26 sisters, four novices, and one candidate relocated from Dietramszell to the newly established St. Josef Monastery, which remains under the order's ownership to this day. The current monastery church, a Neo-Gothic gallery basilica with a west tower, was constructed between 1868 and 1869 by M. Geisberger. A comprehensive purification of the interior took place in 1965 as a result of the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council, during which much of the original furnishings were removed. The Zangberg parish curacy was established on April 26, 1967, by Archbishop Cardinal Döpfner and is now part of the Ampfing parish association.

The monastery church is situated in Zangberg, a district of Mühldorf am Inn, in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany.

The church building presents itself as a Neo-Gothic gallery basilica with a distinctive west tower. The three-aisled church interior spans four bays, measuring 19 meters in length and 11 meters in width. A barrel vault with groin ribs covers the space, with stylized roses adorning the rib intersections. The spire houses four bells from the Karl Czudnochowsky bell foundry in Erding. The original furnishings, including the main and side altars, communion rail, pulpit, and a large cross, were removed in the 1960s. Today, a crucifix approximately 5 meters high, depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus, dominates the altar area. This crucifix is a remnant of the Bennobogen from Munich's Frauenkirche, which was dismantled in 1858.
