Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rodez

The Christianization of the region occurred in the 4th and 5th centuries, with a bishop's church first mentioned in the 6th century. This church underwent several expansions and renovations over the centuries. Following the collapse of the bell tower of the previous structure in February 1276, a decision for a complete new construction was made in the same year. The construction, which began outside the then-existing city walls, was prolonged until 1531 due to the Hundred Years' War and repeated plague epidemics. Master Stephan is considered the first architect, commencing work on the ambulatory chapels in the late 13th century. Despite interruptions and complaints about the slow pace by the bishops, the choir and the north tower were completed by the end of the 14th century. The transept followed, with portals around the mid-15th century and flamboyant-style rose windows towards the end of the 15th century. The portal-less west side and a Renaissance-style top section on the central part were completed in the mid-16th century. A fire in 1510 destroyed the upper parts of the north tower, which was rebuilt by Antoine Salvanh in an impressive style from 1513 to 1526.

The Cathedral of Rodez is located in the city of Rodez, in the Aveyron department, in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France. It stands at an elevation of approximately 635 m above sea level.
