Kasteel Oud-Amelisweerd

The Old Castle Amelisweerd is located near the town Bunnik in the province of Utrecht. A castle is mentioned in 1227 in the possession of the Knights Amelis door de Proosdij van Oudmunster. 1394 transferred the ownership to Herman van Wulven, 1423 to his son Henry, 1537 to Jan van Renesse, 1583 Amelis Utenengh and 1649 Hubert van Buren. 1672 destroyed troops of Louis XIV of France the castle. 1760 transferred the ownership of Godard Gerard Taets van Amerongen, which in 1770 was built the present castle. His son Gerard Arnoud 1808 sold the property to Lodewijk Napoleon, King of Holland. After a year the king sold his property to Jan Pieter van Wickevoort Crommelin, Chancellor of the Reich. In 1811 he sold the property to Paul Wilhelmus van Bosch Drakesteyn, Mayor of Utrecht. 1951 sold the Bosch family the castle to the church of Utrecht.
