Kasteel Nieuw-Amelisweerd
The New Castle Amelisweerd is located near the town Bunnik in the province of Utrecht. A manor is mentioned in 1227 in the possession of the Knights Amelis door de Proosdij van Oudmunster. 1350 the manor Groenewoude is mentioned. 1389 Ernest van Groenewoude is named as the owner of a beautiful castle. Through inheritance, the property went to the van Leeuwenberg family. 1672 the castle was badly damaged. 1682 transferred the ownership of Hendrik van Utenhove, which built the present castle. 1808 Maximiliaan Louis van Utenhove sold the property to Louis Napoleon (King of Holland), who also owned the Old Palace Amelisweerd. In 1810 he sold the property to Jan Pieter van Wickevoort Crommelin, Chancellor of the Kingdom of Holland. In 1811 he sold the property to Paulus Wilhelmus Bosch van Drakesteyn, Mayor of Utrecht. His heirs sold the castle in 1964 to the municipality of Utrecht.
