Kapuzinerkloster St. Anna Burghausen

The Capuchin Order settled in Burghausen in 1618 at the instigation of Elector Maximilian. After the Thirty Years' War, in 1649, the members of the order were involved in caring for plague victims. The convent building was completed in 1654, and a century later, in 1754, the monastery celebrated its centenary. In the early 19th century, specifically 1802, the monastery was secularized and became state property. Nevertheless, it was able to continue as a central monastery of the Capuchin Order. Saint Brother Konrad spent his novitiate here in 1851. In 1877, Bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler died in the monastery. From 1892, the monastery also served as a seminary for the training of aspiring priests, whose students attended the local Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium. Due to a lack of new recruits, the monastery and seminary were dissolved in 1994. In 2010, allegations of abuse against a former seminary director from the years 1984/85 came to light.

The Capuchin Monastery of St. Anna is located in Burghausen, a town in the district of Altötting in Bavaria, Germany.

The former convent building now houses the Municipal Music School. The former seminary building serves as a youth hostel. The Capuchin Church of St. Anna, a simple hall building with a barrel vault, was built in 1656 and underwent a Neo-Romanesque redesign around 1865. Between 1965 and 1967, it was purified and redesigned. In the choir, there is a large crucifix by Johann Georg Lindt and a gilded bronze tabernacle. The ambo by Toni Rückel features depictions of Saints Fidelis, Francis, and Brother Konrad. The altar uses a 300-year-old red marble slab. On the walls, two side altar paintings by Johann Nepomuk della Croce from 1781 can be seen. A memorial plaque commemorates Father Pacificus, who died in 1648 while ministering to plague victims. A side chapel is dedicated to Saint Brother Konrad.
