Capuchin monastery Rosenheim

The Capuchin Monastery in Rosenheim was founded in 1606. During the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century, it briefly served as an electoral central monastery before being dissolved in 1803. The monks were transferred to other monasteries, the inventory was auctioned off, and the buildings were subsequently used as saltworks. In the mid-19th century, specifically in 1854, the reconstruction of a Capuchin monastery began near the St. Sebastian Chapel in Rosenheim, which was occupied in 1856. The small St. Sebastian Chapel was extended to become the Capuchin Church in 1888. From 1986, Capuchin Poor Clares occupied a large part of the monastery complex. The monastery church underwent extensive renovation in 1997. In January 2017, the convent was closed due to a decline in religious vocations, and the remaining Capuchin friars and Capuchin Poor Clares moved to other establishments.

The monastery is located in Rosenheim, a town in Bavaria, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 447 meters above sea level.

Following the closure of the convent in 2017, the former monastery building is no longer inhabited by Capuchin friars or Capuchin Poor Clares. The monastery church was renovated in 1997.
