Irdning Abbey

The monastery is located on a small hill. In 1615, the Praunfalk family built a hunting lodge called Falkenburg, which also gave the place its name. With Siegmund Freiherr von Welserheim, the building was converted into a Capuchin monastery in 1711. The gate wing of the former castle is preserved. The monastery is a simple two-story building with a courtyard with arcades.

A figure of Mary with Child in the refectory dates from the end of the 15th century. Also there is a painting of the founder Welserheim. Also there is a painting of the Last Supper by Johann Lederwasch from 1780.

From 1998 to 1999, the monastery underwent structural renovation and an alteration and extension with architect Sergio Molina from Öblarn.

To the west of the monastery, the south-facing monastery church, marked with the year 1711, was built and consecrated in 1718. The church was restored in 1777 after a fire. The nave and the recessed straight-ending choir are vaulted with lunettes. East of the choir is a prayer choir. The gallery in the north is made of wood. To the east of the nave, two cross-vaulted chapels are attached. The roof turret stands above the prayer choir.

The high altar was newly erected at the end of the 19th century. The altarpiece St. Anne with Child by Philipp Carl Laubmann is from 1778. The former large high altarpiece Holy Family by Johann Veit Hauck from 1712 is in a chapel. The baroque side altars are simply designed. In the prayer choir are four large paintings with order saints from the beginning of the 18th century. The sacristy cabinet is from 1598.
