Stiftskirche

The monastery was founded between 1141 and 1153, likely around 1147 by the Lords of Quernheim. It was originally a convent of Augustinian Canonesses B.M.V. and dedicated to the patronage of Mary. Over the centuries, the monastery developed a significant manorial estate. Following the introduction of the Reformation after 1532, it was transformed into a noble ladies' collegiate church. This transformation occurred under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Minden, which granted the collegiate church its own constitution in 1577. The Collegiate Church of Quernheim was finally dissolved in 1810.

The Canonesses' Collegiate Church of Quernheim is situated in Herford, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It lies at an elevation of approximately 95 meters above sea level.

The former monastery church of the collegiate church is now the parish church of the Evangelical-Lutheran community of Stift Quernheim. The building still features significant Romanesque elements, particularly in the southern transept, the choir, and the south wall of the nave, as well as groin vaults. In the 14th century, the so-called 'Fräuleinchor' (ladies' choir) with a crypt was added. The church acquired its current form between 1548 and 1555, during which the north wall was rebuilt and a late Gothic carved altar from an Osnabrück workshop was added around 1520.
