The Johanniterkommende Affaltrach was founded around the year 1278. For several centuries, the Order of St. John shaped the spiritual and secular life at this location. The commandery existed until the early modern period, before it was dissolved during the secularization in 1805 and 1806, marking the end of its monastic existence.
