Jesuitenkolleg St. Salvator

The establishment of the Jesuit College St. Salvator in 1582 was made possible by a donation from Christoph Fugger's nephews, who contributed 30,000 guilders from his inheritance. The foundation stone was laid as early as 1581 on land provided by the Fuggers. The associated church of St. Salvator was completed in 1584. In 1763, the complex was expanded with the acquisition of an adjacent residential building, and in 1765, the Aula Mariana was inaugurated. Although the Jesuit order was suppressed in 1773, the college continued to operate until 1806. The remaining Jesuits subsequently left the city. From the college's assets, a Catholic study fund was established in 1808. The buildings initially served as barracks and the church as a riding school for the Bavarian garrison. Most of the buildings were demolished in the 19th century; only the Aula Mariana, now known as the Kleiner Goldener Saal, remains.

The Jesuit College St. Salvator was situated in the Lower Town of Augsburg, north of the cathedral, in Jesuitengasse. Augsburg is located in the German state of Bavaria.

Of the original monastic complex, only the Aula Mariana, known today as the Kleiner Goldener Saal, remains. The site is protected as a historical monument.
