Episcopal Seminary, Catholic Schutzengelkirche
Jesuitenkolleg Eichstätt

The former Jesuit College in Eichstätt, Bavaria, is a historic monastic building that played a central role in the region's educational history and now serves as the Episcopal Seminary. It is closely linked to the development of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
History+
The origins of the college date back to 1564, when Prince-Bishop Martin von Schaumberg founded the Collegium Willibaldinum for priestly training. In 1614, Prince-Bishop Johann Christoph von Westerstetten handed the institution over to the Jesuits. Between 1617 and 1620, a spacious pilaster church, today's Schutzengelkirche (Guardian Angel Church), was built. During the Swedish storm of 1634, both the church and the college were severely damaged, with only the outer walls, the choir vault, and the church tower remaining. The reconstruction of the college was completed in 1665. After the dissolution of the Jesuit order in 1773, Bishop Johann Anton III von Zehmen succeeded in reopening the Willibaldinum ten years later. With the secularization in Bavaria in 1806, the institution temporarily lost its significance. In 1838, it reopened as a boys' seminary, followed by the establishment of a lyceum in 1843. This lyceum was transformed into a Philosophical-Theological University in 1924, which has been known as the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt since 1980.

The Jesuit College is located in the city of Eichstätt in the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Bavaria, Germany.
On site+
The complex of the former Jesuit College now houses the Episcopal Seminary and the Catholic Schutzengelkirche. The church, a pilaster building with a curved gable and a tower set back to the south, was rebuilt after the fire of 1634 until 1661 and redesigned internally in 1717 with Rococo stucco by Franz de Gabrieli and frescoes by Johann Michael Rosner. The college itself was built in the 17th century and adapted over the centuries through extensions and renovations, most recently from 1981–1984.
