Rathaus Baden-Baden

The Jesuit College was founded in 1622 at the instigation of Margrave Wilhelm of Baden, who aimed to advance the Counter-Reformation in the Margraviate of Baden-Baden. The Jesuit order established a school here. Following the suppression of the Jesuit order in 1773 by Pope Clement XIV, the college was transformed into a secular lyceum, which also offered theological studies. A well-known professor from this period was Franz Xaver Werk. In 1808, the Baden lyceum merged with the Piarist school in Rastatt. The college building was subsequently acquired by Josef von Lassolaye, Baden-Baden's first honorary citizen. Friedrich Weinbrenner redesigned the building in 1809 into a 'Conversationshaus,' where a casino opened in 1812. After the casino relocated to the new right wing of the Kurhaus, the building complex finally became the city hall and seat of the municipal administration in 1862. Another renovation took place in 1938.

The former Jesuit College is situated in the city of Baden-Baden, in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located at an elevation of approximately 193 meters above sea level.

Today, the historic building of the former Jesuit College serves as Baden-Baden's city hall and houses the municipal administration. It is protected as a cultural monument.
