The Historic Building: A Journey Through Time+
From Hunting Lodge to Residential Palace+

The hunting lodge was built in 1761-62 by Wilhelm Heinrich von Nassau. Later, ownership transferred to the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken. In 1935, the palace was partially demolished.

Construction and Early Years

The original building served as a hunting lodge and was erected under the direction of the renowned architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel. The architecture reflects the late Baroque style, characterized by clear lines and elegant proportions. The interior was lavishly decorated, with stucco work and frescoes adorning the walls and ceilings.

Changes of Ownership and Expansions

Over the centuries, the building changed hands multiple times. Each owner left their mark, adding new wings or redesigning existing rooms. In the 19th century, the palace was expanded to include a large park, which quickly became a popular destination for the local population.

The 20th Century: Decline and Preservation Efforts+

The 20th century brought significant challenges for the historic building. During World War II, it suffered severe damage. Although initial reconstruction efforts were made, the palace fell into disrepair in the post-war period.

Partial Demolition and New Use

In 1935, a controversial decision was made to partially demolish the palace. Parts of the building were removed to make way for new construction projects. The remaining sections were used for various purposes, including as administrative offices and residential units.

Current Status and Future Prospects

Today, the historic building is a protected monument. Extensive renovation work has been carried out in recent years to preserve its historical substance. Plans are underway to open parts of the building to the public and use them for cultural events.
