Hinteres Castle Schöckingen

The Hinteres Schloss is also known as the Great House or Gaisberg Building. On a rectangular footprint, the brick ground floor rises, followed by two yellow-plastered half-timbered floors. The upper part is completed by a high, tile-covered steep roof. The southeastern facade features an elaborately crafted round-arch portal with the coat of arms of Friedrich Albrecht von Gaisberg. It shows his initials F. A. V. G and the year 1754, the year of the building's construction. Inside the building, old stucco ceilings are still preserved.

Schöckingen Castle, built as a lowland castle, was first documented in the 13th century. In the Middle Ages, the castle and the surrounding village belonged to the dominion of the Lords of Nippenburg, who had the present main house built by 1566. The Nippenburgers long refused to introduce the Reformation in Schöckingen, which is why the castle was destroyed by Protestant troops during the Thirty Years' War. The Hinteres Schloss had already been destroyed once in 1431. The Württemberg territorial rule pushed the Nippenburgers out of the village and granted the castle complex as a Württemberg fief to the Barons of Gaisberg-Schöckingen on April 11, 1660.

In 1740, they had the main house, partially destroyed by lightning, rebuilt and the Hinteres Schloss erected in 1754. Further changes were made to the main house in the late 18th and 19th centuries, while the Maierhaus was built around 1800.

Since the late 1970s, a part of the castle complex has been owned by Manfred Osterwald, who had it rebuilt and renovated in the historical style according to his plans in the 1980s.
