Gut Toesdorf: A Historic Manor House in Schleswig-Holstein+
Gut Toesdorf was established in 1670 when Gut Roest near Kappeln was divided. The baroque manor house was built in 1765, but the farm buildings have not been preserved.
History of the Estate+
From Roest to Toesdorf
The history of Gut Toesdorf is closely linked to Gut Roest. In the mid-17th century, the owner of Gut Roest, Christoph von Roest, decided to divide his extensive estate. This division led to the creation of Gut Toesdorf, which initially comprised a smaller area but quickly gained importance.
The Construction of the Manor House
The current manor house, a magnificent baroque building, was erected in 1765. It replaced an older, simpler building and reflects the prosperity and architectural taste of its builders. The exact architect is not known, but the design shows typical features of North German baroque architecture.
Architecture and Features+
The Baroque Manor House
The manor house is a two-story brick building with a hipped roof. The facade is characterized by symmetrical window arrangements and subtle decorative elements. A central risalit emphasizes the main entrance. Inside, some original stucco ceilings and wall paneling have been preserved, giving an impression of the former splendor.
Lost Farm Buildings
Unfortunately, the original farm buildings, which once surrounded the manor house, are no longer preserved. These included stables, barns, and other utility buildings essential for the operation of an agricultural estate. Their disappearance is probably due to later conversions and modernizations.
Current Use and Significance+
Today, Gut Toesdorf is privately owned and is used residentially. It is an important example of a well-preserved baroque manor house in Schleswig-Holstein and contributes significantly to the cultural heritage of the region. Although not publicly accessible, its impressive architecture can be admired from the outside.
