Skärva Manor

Skärva Manor is a remarkable country estate in Sweden, located northwest of Karlskrona. Built in the late 18th century, it stands out for its unique architecture and its connection to the shipbuilder Fredrik Henrik af Chapman. Since 1976, it has been a protected building and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Naval Port of Karlskrona.

He received assistance from architect Carl August Ehrensvärd during its construction. Af Chapman resided at the estate until 1806. The property was later, in 1976, listed as a heritage building and included in the World Heritage Site Naval Port of Karlskrona.

Today, Skärva Manor is privately owned. The main building is a single-story structure with around 20 rooms and an H-shaped footprint. A distinctive lighthouse-like structure adorns the center of the house, and the entrance area is marked by a portico with four columns. Inside, af Chapman's study is designed to resemble a ship's cabin, and the southern “Chinese Room” is decorated with approximately 100 Chinese drawings. The estate also includes several special outbuildings, among them a pleasure house called “Diana's Temple,” inspired by ancient temples, and a bell tower, considered an early example of Swedish Neo-Gothic architecture.
