Saritsch Manor

To be privately owned

Saritsch Manor House, a manor, is located in the Saritsch district of the municipality of Neschwitz.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1412, when it was first documented. Originally, a medieval moated castle stood on this site, the remains of which are still traceable in a depression on the southeastern edge of the village. This fortification, once surrounded by a moat, was abandoned in the 16th century. Subsequently, the current manor farm was established on the northeastern edge of the village. Around 1600, Hans von Ponickau, district administrator of Bautzen, owned the Saritsch and Loga estates before selling them to Friedrich von Lutitz in 1607. From about 1623, the manor remained in the possession of the von Zezschwitz family for about a century. In 1722, Hans Christoph von Theler acquired the estate for 16,600 thalers, keeping it in his family's possession for approximately 220 years, until 1946. The current manor house was probably built around 1835 or 1860 in a late Classicist style, with a hip roof and arched windows, accented by a weather vane and a clock on the ridge. After 1945, the estate was expropriated during the land reform and served, among other things, as a cultural center, training facility, and municipal administration during the GDR era. Since 1991, the farm has been the operational headquarters of Saritscher-Agrar GmbH.
