Niedergebra Manor

The community was first mentioned in a document in 1162.

The Counts of Hagen exerted a significant influence on the town and its development. Friedrich Philipp vom Hagen (1683-1754) was district administrator of the County of Hohnstein, which was under Prussian rule. This first district administrator of the Nordhausen district is still commemorated today in Niedergebra by the old Hagen Castle, which was called the "Blue Court" because of its slate roof. It was built between 1725 and 1735 and is modeled after a moated castle. The manor house is reinforced at all four corners with a square tower. The complex is surrounded by a moat, over which a stone bridge leads to the entrance portal.

After the owners were dispossessed without compensation in 1945 and had to leave the moated castle, it became a retirement and nursing home from 1950 onwards. The moated castle was sold by the owner, the Nordhausen District Office, and is now privately owned.
