Niederberge Manor

Haus Niederberge is located in the Meschede district of Berge, near the Wenne river.

The Lords of Berge were demonstrably present as early as the 13th century. At the beginning of the 14th century, they were vassals of the Count of Arnsberg. After 1384, ownership passed to the noble family von Mülsborn and then to the noble families von Schade and von Ense. Through the marriage of Ida von Ense, Dietrich von Plettenberg became the owner of the estate in 1548. In the following generation, through another marriage, the Siegen bailiff Henrich von Holdinghausen became the owner of the property. In 1661, Jobst Edmund von Brabeck acquired the indebted estate for 20,330 Thalers. Three years later, he built the present manor house. The inscription "1664 IEVB" on the north wall of the building is still present today. In 1670, von Brabecke sold the property to the Archbishop of Cologne, Maximilian Heinrich. In 1827, the Count of Westfalen acquired the estate. In 1841, after acquiring the house, District Administrator Friedrich Boese obtained the right to attend the Knight's Assembly for the estate.
