Modexer Hof Manor (Brakel)

The Modexer Hof is said to have been built in 1350 by the Knights of Modexen. They used the Gothic stone building as their urban family seat, as their actual home settlement became desolate around the same time. In 1479, the city impounded the building, known by the nickname "Alte Waage" (Old Scales). At this time, the Modexer Hof must have already functioned as the city scales for a long time. In 1553, it was sold completely.

Mainly used as the city scales until 1840, the Modexer Hof also temporarily housed a prison and a city granary. At the end of the 19th century, the building was renovated and apartments were set up on the upper floors. The ground floor was subsequently used as a storage room for fire brigade equipment. It was not until 1980 that the usage concept changed again. After extensive renovation work, exhibition rooms were set up in the former fire brigade storage, while the upper floors now house a council chamber and the city archive.
