Krebsburg Manor

The founding period of Gut Krebsburg is obscure. The estate is mentioned around 1347 as the Bentheim fief Crevetesburg. In 1408, a Statius von Dehem came into possession of the estate. From 1500, the former moated castle was counted among the possessions of the von Stricket family, who were wealthy in Ostercappeln. In 1545, the indebted estate was sold for 9525 Taler to the East Frisian nobleman von Middlum, with the reservation of the right of residence for the von Graevenitz family. Katharina von Middlum then married W. von Prenger. Inheritance disputes led to the decline of the estate until the 17th century. In 1642, the manor house was described as completely dilapidated. Heinrich von Morsey-Picard, originally from France, came into possession of the estate. Further owners were von Romberg and from 1913 von Wendt (until 1976). From 1976 to 2011, the estate served as a residential home for people with disabilities and belonged to the Heilpädagogische Hilfe Osnabrück. Since 2011, Gut Krebsburg has been back in private ownership.

The predecessor building of the moated manor house was located a few hundred meters east of the current manor house in marshy terrain. Around 1750, the two-story manor house with its outbuildings was built on a hill. The manor house with a gabled roof is accessed via a two-flight open staircase.

Building opposite the hiking car park. Starting point for hikes to Krebsburg, Schnippenburg, Kappelenberg and the Wiehengebirge. The Krebsburger Mühle belonged to the Holtgrevenhof at the beginning of the 15th century and then came to Gut Kuhof. Later, the mill, like Kuhof, also belonged to Krebsburg. From 1876 - 1927, the Riepe family (parents of Franz Riepe) leased the mill, then the Beckmann family took over the mill operation.

The single-story mill building made of quarry stone was demolished during the removal of the "Lehmsiek" railway overpass and relocated to its current site. Since 1974, the mill building has been renovated with great attention to detail. The mill is in private ownership and is located on the Wittekinds- and Mühlenweg.
