Kilver Manor (Rödinghausen)

Haus Kilver is only partially preserved in its original state and has probably been rebuilt or extended several times. It therefore no longer exhibits a homogeneous architectural form. Haus Kilver was originally a moated castle; a moat is only preserved on the north side. In addition to the residential building on the north and east sides, the inner courtyard is formed by several farm buildings that serve the agricultural operation. Some of these are designed as typical Westphalian half-timbered farms. In the inner courtyard, one building features a clock tower.

During the Saxon Wars (772 to 804), the Franks under Charlemagne subjugated the Engern under their Duke Widukind. The Franks appointed count palatines in the conquered territories, who administered the area for them from their royal courts. One of these royal courts was Rödinghausen's Haus Kilver (then called Villa Kilveri), which was first mentioned in a document in 851, several decades after its presumed origin, making it Rödinghausen's oldest documented settlement core. In this document, Louis the German gifted Haus Kilver to the women's monastery founded in Herford around 822 under Louis the Pious. The best-known owners were the Vinckes, who also owned Gut Böckel from 1771 to 1820 and initially also Gut Waghorst.

Today, Gut Kilver, alongside Gut Böckel, is one of Rödinghausen's largest agricultural enterprises.
