Iddelsfeld Manor (Köln)

The estate was first mentioned in 1222 as a knight's seat by Caesarius of Heisterbach. The owners were born Bach- and Waldgrafen. In the 14th century, the family von Schönrath, from the 15th to the 17th century the lineage von Quadt zu Buschfeld were owners of the estate. After the Droste-Vischering in the 17th century, Caspar Düppers is mentioned in 1784 as the first commoner - even before the French Revolution - as owner, followed by further commoner owners until 1913, the date of the acquisition of the estate by the city of Cologne. Iddelsfeld was no longer considered "eligible for the Landtag" during this time. In 1962, the house Th. Lützeler acquired it from the city of Cologne - the family had previously resided at the currently demolished Daufhof in Holweide.

The farm complex, built or rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century, possibly by the aforementioned Caspar Düppers (1742 - 1826), possesses - as is now very rarely found in the Cologne area - not only a late Baroque main building, but also - as a lateral boundary of the courtyard square - outbuildings or stables dating from this period. Only the half-timbered barn dates from 1905, as evidenced by the year inscribed on the exterior, and was thus built at the same time as the neighboring mill building on the Strunder Bach. Undoubtedly, the medieval farm complex was completely surrounded by water - today the wide moat only extends in a U-shape on the south side, leaving space for a wide meadow in front of the residential building. Since the eastern outbuildings block the moat towards the Strunder Bach, it can be assumed that the northern part of the ring moat was filled in during the construction of these buildings. It therefore seems not impossible that the stables, probably timber-framed, were formerly located south of the main house, which explains the disproportionately large open space here.
