Hoeningen Manor

The place probably originated in the 6th/7th century. At least, there was already a knight's seat, the Hoeninger Haus, which originally consisted of a castle with a moat. Even today, the farmstead located at this site is surrounded by a moat. The owners of the Hoeninger Haus were the von Hoeningen family. One of their descendants was Otto von Hoeningen, who was abbot of Altenberg Monastery from 1276 to 1280. In the 10th century, Hoeningen was first mentioned as Hoangi in a document. In 1227, the Knights of Hoengen were first mentioned. Their castle had been an open house of Electoral Cologne since 1387. Until 1794, Hoeningen belonged to the Rommerskirchen Dingstuhl in the Electoral Cologne district of Hülchrath.

In the 18th century, the old castle complex was fundamentally rebuilt: the former fortified castle complex became a farm with a manor house, stables, and a bakehouse, the western part of which is still preserved today. In the 19th century, the residential building was extended to the east.
