Greiffenclau Manor (Höchst)

The Greiffenclaus House, also known as the Rüffer House, is located at Wed 13. Little is known about the history of the Renaissance building, which was probably built between 1590 and 1600 by the Stupanus brothers. Above the cellar entrance of the house is the coat of arms of the Heusenstamm family. The house may have been built on behalf of Martin von Heusenstamm, who was bailiff in Höchst in 1540. It is not known when the house came into the possession of the Greiffenclaus family and how the ownership changed thereafter.

Until 1848, the last Höchst bailiff, Rüffer, had his residence in the Greiffenclaus House. He also used the apartment as his official residence, as the actual official premises did not suit him. In 1878, the Höchst dialect poet Frieda Düsterbehn-Reuting, a granddaughter of Rüffer, was born in the Greiffenclaus House. The house was completely renovated inside and out in 1936, receiving a new roof and new exterior plaster.
