On the site of today's manor house once stood Eilhausen Castle. As early as 1656, Count Georg Friedrich von Waldeck is said to have instructed his master builder to demolish the castle. In its place, the manor house was built in 1816. Until the end of the Principality of Waldeck-Pyrmont after the First World War, the estate was a Waldeck state domain. The last reigning Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont, Friedrich, received, after his abdication, by agreement with the Landtag of the Free State of Waldeck in 1920, the usufruct of Arolsen Castle as well as ownership of Arolsen Forest and the Hünighausen domain; the latter was then exchanged for the Eilhausen domain. The estate has since been owned by the House of Waldeck-Pyrmont, but is now leased.
