Blumenthal Manor (Brachelen)
Haus Blumenthal is a former moated castle at the entrance to Brachelen, a district of Hückelhoven, coming from Hilfarth in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Heinsberg.
The building was first mentioned in 1452 and was at that time owned by Karl von Honseler. In 1484, Reiner von Honseler was mentioned as the owner.
In 1542, Johann von Blumenthal acquired the property, which was later named after the Blumenthal family. Johann von Blumenthal, bailiff of Gülsdorf, was ennobled by Emperor Charles V in 1546 and was married to Elisabeth von Gruithausen. In 1600, the von Gruithausen family is recorded as owners. The von Gruithausen family is an old noble family, first mentioned around 1300, originating from the Netherlands. Arnold von Gruithausen was married to Elisabeth von Blumenthal. The transfer of ownership from the von Blumenthal family to the von Gruithausen family can be attributed to these family connections.

Haus Blumenthal is the remnant of a formerly rectangular castle complex, which began to decay significantly from the beginning of the 19th century.
Of the former knight's seat, a part of the two-story manor house with ashlar-framed windows from the mid-16th century on the northwest side, as well as the adjacent hall building from 1658 located in the northeast corner, are preserved. This is also two-story, but its floors are significantly higher than those of the adjacent older part of the manor house. Access to the hall building is provided by a small, richly decorated basket-arch portal with a gable-shaped top. The large windows of the hall building also have ashlar surrounds, each with a flat gable adorned with a pine cone at the top.
