Alt-Wallmoden Manor

Alt Wallmoden was first mentioned in 1016 in a deed of gift, in which Emperor Henry II transferred a manor in Wallmoden (Curtis Walmonthem) to the episcopal church in Paderborn. Since then, the Diocese of Paderborn, alongside the Diocese of Hildesheim, has been among the feudal lords in Alt Wallmoden. The name of the place later changed from Walmonthem to Walmuthe, Walmede, and finally to today's Wallmoden.

In 1154, Tidelinus (Thedel) von Wallmoden, a ministerialis (court servant in the administrative service of the Duke) of Henry the Lion, was the first member of the noble family, which named itself after the place, to be mentioned. The family has owned property in Wallmoden since that time and still operates an agricultural business in Alt Wallmoden today.

In 1599, the property of the von Wallmoden family was divided when the brothers Ludolf and Jasper von Wallmoden founded the Oberhaus and Unterhaus lines. Only after 1825, when the Oberhaus line died out with the death of Rittmeister Karl Christoph Heinrich von Wallmoden, were the estates reunited.

The first parts of the von Wallmoden family's manor house were built in the 16th century; the northern wing dates from 1579, and the second wing from 1628. An octagonal stair tower is attached to the northern wing, its entrance bearing the inscription "Soli deo gloria 1579". The buildings were supplemented in 1833 by a third wing of the manor house. The estate complex is still family-owned today.
