Heespenhof Palais

The District Court is located in the Heespenhof on Lollfuß in Schleswig. The Heespenhof is a palace built in 1754 as a residence for Conference Councillor Christian Friedrich von Heespen († 1776). Heespen owned the estates of Hemmelmark and Deutsch-Nienhof as agricultural properties. The elaborately constructed staircase and the stucco decorations are reminiscent of the times of court life in the Gottorf Residence.

In the 19th century, the President of the Government, Ludwig Nikolaus von Scheele, became the owner of the palace. From this period, the house is also known as the Scheele Palace. Scheele was a staunch defender of the interests of the Danish United Monarchy. During the Schleswig-Holstein Uprising in 1848, he had to flee Schleswig. The Prussians took over the building after 1864 and established the District Court there. Between 1867 and the Imperial Justice Reform of 1879, it housed the Schleswig District Court.
