Weyern Manor

Gut Weyern is a manor house with a stately home in the Burgau Forest on the outskirts of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The estate is located in the Düren city forest (Burgau Forest) right next to a greened rubble heap. This artificial mountain consists of the remains of debris from the city of Düren after the air raid of November 16, 1944. Opposite stands the Düren Vocational Training Center.

The estate was formerly called Grevenweyern. It was first mentioned on November 28, 1398.

Until its confiscation by the French, the estate belonged to the Dukes of Jülich. They offered Gut Weyern for sale as a national domain. In 1804, Ferdinand Josef Effertz from Aachen bought it. The next owner was Johann Paul Schenkel, a businessman from Düren. Through inheritance and marriage, the farm came to the Schoeller family, later to the Prym family. On June 28, 1940, the city of Düren bought Gut Weyern from the Prym heirs.

The two characteristic, outwardly sloping brick pillars at the courtyard entrance date from the 18th century. Part of the estate is surrounded by a moat. On one outer side, the Köpfelstein can be seen, which is the remnant of an execution site.

The two-story, five-bay manor house was built at the beginning of the 18th century and has a gable roof. It is a brick building with stone surrounds. A modern extension was built on the field side.

Directly at Gut Weyern there is a large pond, which was formerly used for fish farming.
