Weiherhof Manor

Gut Weiherhof is located in Gürzenich, a district of Düren in the district of the same name in North Rhine-Westphalia at Schillingsstraße 331.

In the 14th century, the Weiherhof was mentioned for the first time. The first known owner was the Schwarzenbroich Monastery. The monastery acquired the estate in 1492. The property included two artificially created fish ponds located somewhat remotely. The monastery apparently expanded the estate at that time and created six more ponds. The eight ponds served to supply the monastery with fish. The Weiherhof was, by the way, still called Pfaffenhof at that time.

Around 1750, Adam Wilhelm Schellart from Burg Obbendorf (Hambach) acquired the Weiherhof. The Schellart family became increasingly impoverished and indebted. On February 4, 1767, they were forced to sell the Weiherhof at an auction. Wenau Monastery acquired the property with about 500 acres of forest for 24,900 Reichstalers.

The Weiherhof was secularized by Napoleon in 1802 and then came into the possession of the Schillings family. In the early 1920s, Baron von Bennigsen acquired the property. In 1924, the Schoeller family bought Gut Weiherhof, which is now owned by Christa Schüll, née Schoeller.

The Weiherhof is a two-story, transversely rectangular manor house with a mansard roof, in front of which on the street side is an octagonal, four-story tower. Adjoining the manor house is a three-winged farmyard. The main building fabric of the estate dates from the late 18th century. The year 1778 can be found in the anchors of the farm buildings. The 19th-century landscape park of the Weiherhof is worth mentioning.

Carl Georg Schillings and Max von Schillings were born at Weiherhof.

The building is listed under No. 6/001 in the monument list of the city of Düren.
