Volkardey Castle

Volkardey Manor is an old knight's estate with a turbulent history, first mentioned in 1458 as Volkardeien. It belonged to the old Honschaft Rath, which was part of the municipality of Eckamp from 1815 to 1899. When Rath was incorporated into Düsseldorf, Volkardey Manor came to Ratingen. At times, it was listed among the knight's seats of the old Bergisches Amt Angermund. The owners have changed frequently. Volkardey Manor is now owned by the Leuchten family, who have long been known far beyond the city limits for their horse breeding.

The manor house of Volkardey Manor was built in its present form at the beginning of the 18th century and initially used primarily as a summer residence. In 1866, the stately home was rebuilt. It is surrounded by a moat fed by the Schwarzbach stream and embedded in a cultural landscape characterized by fields, meadows, and pastures.
