Hasenwald Castle

The manor house of Bendeleben is a historic building that has undergone several transformations over the centuries. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but the current appearance is largely shaped by the Baroque and Neoclassical periods.

From Medieval Castle to Renaissance Palace

The first documented mention of a fortified building in Bendeleben dates back to the 12th century. At that time, it was a medieval castle, probably built by the Lords of Bendeleben. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times and was gradually expanded.

In the the 16th century, under the ownership of the von Tütchenrode family, the castle was converted into a Renaissance palace. Remains of this period, such as parts of the inner courtyard and some decorative elements, are still visible today.

Baroque and Neoclassical Transformations

The most significant changes to the manor house took place in the 18th century. Under the ownership of the von Arnim family, the building was extensively renovated and expanded in the Baroque style. This included the addition of a new wing, the redesign of the facade, and the creation of an impressive garden.

In the early 19th century, the manor house underwent further modifications in the Neoclassical style. These changes primarily affected the interior, which was modernized and adapted to the prevailing taste.

The manor house of Bendeleben is an impressive example of the architectural development from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism. It combines elements of different eras, creating a unique and harmonious overall appearance.

The manor house is currently privately owned and cannot be visited.
