Düssel Castle

Haus Düssel moated castle is a former knight's seat in the Wülfrath district of Düssel and was first mentioned in a document in 1182. The two-story manor house from the late 18th century fell victim to a bombing raid in 1945. The surviving outer bailey, consisting of stables and a steward's house, was rebuilt in 1786 - according to the building inscription 1789 - by Johann Peter Bredt. In 1784, the estate, which until then had been in changing noble possession, was sold for 22,500 Reichsthaler to the merchant Johann Peter Bredt (1756-1819) from Barmen, and later belonged to his son, the painter Johann Peter Bredt (1782-1864). After the death of his widow in 1864, the grandson Joh. Peter Greeff-Bredt acquired the estate from the heirs, and it thus passed to the Greeff family, in whose possession it remained until after 1945. The building complex is protected as a historical monument.
