Dellwig Castle

Haus Dellwig is a moated castle and was built in the 13th century by the von Dellwig family in Dortmund. The castle is located within the city of Dortmund, in the district of Dellwig, in the south of today's Westrich district, near the border to the Lütgendortmund district, in the hilly moraine landscape of the Dellwiger Bach valley, surrounded by the Dellwiger Bach nature reserve, in the immediate vicinity of the Westphalian Industrial Museum Zeche Zollern II/IV. It can be reached via exit 40 (Dortmund-Lütgendortmund) of the A 40 motorway.

The surrounding Dellwiger Wald invites you for walks. Haus Dellwig is also ideally suited to offer cyclists a break by the pond. Other Dortmund sights, such as the Golden Wonder of Kirchlinde in St. Joseph's Church and the Westphalian School Museum in Dortmund-Marten, are easily accessible from there by bicycle.

Haus Dellwig is already mentioned in 1238 in connection with a knight named Heremanns de Dalewick (Hermann von Dellwig). After its destruction in the Thirty Years' War, the two-story manor house was rebuilt between 1658 and 1690. Over time, it was further rebuilt several times, and thus various architectural styles are visible in the building. In 1727, the last male descendant of the Marchian knightly family de Dalewick died. After that, the house passed through several hands through inheritance and sale. Ultimately, it was acquired in 1904 by Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks AG.

The main house is the oldest part of the entire building complex. Above the main entrance is a Latin inscription, which translated means: "The widow of Arnold Georg von und zu Dellwig had the house built in 1696 for herself and her descendants."

Today, parts of the agricultural complex of Haus Dellwig house the Lütgendortmund Local History Museum. The manor house continues to be used as a residence.

The owner of the castle is the City of Dortmund. It has been listed as a monument in the monument list of the City of Dortmund since 1997.
