Byink Castle

In 1558, Haus Byink was built by Heinrich von Ascheberg in its current form as a Westphalian farmhouse in the Renaissance style. However, there was a predecessor building, which was already owned by the Lords of Ascheberg around 1400. The complex was laid out as a two-island moated castle. It includes, among other things, a mighty two-story gatehouse (built in 1561) with two semi-circular tower-like projections. The building with its one-and-a-half-meter thick walls near the knight's seat Romberg is made of brick mosaic.

In 1698, the house came into the possession of Christoph Engelbert von Beverförde-Werries through a legacy. The history of this family line ended in 1780. Haus Byink now became the property of Friedrich Clemens von Elverfeld.

Since 1984, the house has been the residence of Ida Freifrau von Elverfeld. The manor house, which stood on a separate island, no longer exists today.
