Boulich Manor

Boulich Castle is a medieval castle complex in the rural area near Wichterich, a district of Zülpich in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The former moated castle could be of Roman-Celtic origin, based on its name derivation (Bulliacum). Previously, the Enzelhof settlement was owned by Prüm Abbey.

The manor, mentioned in the 14th century, was still eligible for the Landtag (state parliament) in the 19th century.

Through the marriage of Sophia von Boulich, the property came into the possession of Richard Krümmel von Nechtersheim at the beginning of the 16th century. He was the owner until 1604. Olmissen, known as Mulstroe, became the new owner through marriage. In 1681, the estate was mortgaged to Timan von Nickel, who later had the manor house built. The architectural style was copied from Müddersheim Castle. Tilmann's son-in-law Werner Krey was enfeoffed with the property in 1731. In 1859, records show a son-in-law of the House of Krey, Hartmann, as the owner. In inheritance proceedings, the castle fell to the current owner, Baron von Coels von der Brügghen.

The formerly two-part moated castle is still surrounded on three sides by a water-filled moat. The almost square manor house island bears a modern machine shed, which stands on the footprint and the outer walls, partially preserved up to 1.5 m in height, of the manor house destroyed in the Second World War. After the fire of 1896, most of the buildings were renewed.
