Harff'sche Burg Castle

The Harff'sche Castle is the ruin of a lowland castle on the private grounds of the Trompeterhof between the Neffelbach and the cemetery in Nörvenich, Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Around 1400, Werner von Vlatten-Merode received a farm in Nörvenich through inheritance division. A century and a half later, a castle, the Harff'sche Castle, was built on this site. It was built in 1565 by Johann von Harff zu Geilenkirchen.
100 years later, the property fell to Philipp Wilhelm Freiherr von Harff-Dreiborn.
In the 19th century, Maximilian Graf Wolff Metternich acquired the lowland castle with its associated farmsteads. Through marriage, it then came into the possession of the Vicomtes de Maistre zu Gymnich.
The castle has been uninhabited since 1880. Since then, the ruin has continued to collapse.
In 1904, large parts of the roof collapsed, in 1909 the stepped gables, in 1933 all roof and gable parts had disappeared. In 1935, a renovation of the bay window was carried out, and in 1938 attempts were made to take safety measures on the masonry and the stair tower, which, however, were never completed due to the construction of the Westwall.
In the early 1930s, the property came into private civilian hands. The Leunissen family remains the owner to this day.
The castle was entered into the monument list of the municipality of Nörvenich under No. 42 on March 19, 1985.

The two-story, rectangular castle was an approximately 22 by 11 m brick building with a gable roof. At the east corner was a mighty round tower, which was opposed by a slender stair tower on the south side.
