Zaschendorf Manor

The manor house, a stately building with a rich history, stands as a testament to bygone eras. Its foundations date back to the medieval period, with significant additions and renovations occurring over the centuries, reflecting various architectural styles.

The building exhibits a fascinating blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. The original Gothic structure is evident in the sturdy stone walls and some of the arched windows on the lower levels. Later Renaissance influences can be seen in the more symmetrical facades and decorative stonework, particularly around the main entrance.

The Baroque period brought about significant changes, including the addition of an elaborate grand staircase and ornate stucco ceilings in the principal reception rooms. The roofline, with its distinctive gables and dormer windows, also reflects Baroque design principles.

The manor house has played a pivotal role in the local history, serving as the administrative and social center of the surrounding estate for hundreds of years. It has witnessed numerous historical events, from feudal disputes to periods of great prosperity and times of hardship.

Notable Residents

Over the centuries, the manor house has been home to several prominent families. Each family left its mark, contributing to the building's unique character and the estate's development.

• The von Barner Family: Held the estate for over 300 years, initiating many of the significant architectural expansions.
• The von Langermann-Erlenkamp Family: Acquired the estate in the 18th century, known for their extensive art collection housed within the manor.

The estate was owned by the von Barner family and Gudrun von Bredow, née Baroness von Langermann-Erlenkamp. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed by the communists.
