History of the Manor House+

The Schönwalde Estate

Schönwalde was an estate until 1945, in contrast to the surrounding communities, which were farming villages. The estate was leased to the Dreetz family in the 1920s and to the Lohmann family in the 1930s. Schönwalde was settled by locals and refugees in 1946. In 1945, the estate owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. The manor house, with its stately rooms, was subsequently converted into a school; refugees, mainly from the Schneidemühl area, lived in the cellar and attic.
