Rattelvitz Manor

To be privately owned

Rattelvitz Manor House is a historic manor in the Rattelvitz district of the municipality of Gingst. It borders the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park on Rügen.

Rattelvitz Estate was first documented in 1318. From 1400, it belonged to the knightly estates of the von der Osten family. In 1817, the estate passed into the possession of the von Platen family, who were prominent on the island of Rügen.

According to Hagenow's map of 1829, the current isolated farm was originally located north of Volsvitz, directly on the Wittenberger Strom; in the further course of the first half of the 19th century, the farm was moved about one kilometer south. The place name comes from the Slavic "Ratnovici" and means "people of Raten".

In the 14th century, the place belonged to a family Kooth, Kowt or Kothe; later, but before 1532, it came into the possession of the von der Osten family of Capelle.

Between 1810 and 1820, Rattelvitz came into the possession of the von Platen family of Gurtitz. In 1848, the Rattelvitz outwork was formed from two consolidated farms.

The Current Complex+

Today, Rattelvitz Estate is a protected architectural monument. It is listed under No. 620 in the monument list of the Rügen district.

In 2005, the estate was converted and renovated into a holiday home by the descendants of the owner expropriated in 1960, farmer Heinrich Haupt, in the style of the 1900s, but with modern comfort. Remains of old barns were removed, providing an unobstructed view of the Baltic Sea and the island of Ummanz.
