Parow Manor
The manor house Schloss Parow is a country house on the outskirts of the eponymous district of the municipality of Kramerhof in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.
The historicist manor house is a two-story, six-axis, and partially plastered building with a striking red brick facade.
The manor house was commissioned by Friedrich Franz Freiherr von Langen in 1860. The building, in the style of English country houses, is characterized by numerous ornaments, bay windows, decorative chimneys, and skylights, as well as ogee and volute gables. On the north side there is a small tower. On the facade of the house are terracotta reliefs with head representations and the partially destroyed nameplates of the family members.
Part of the building is the family chapel, which was added in 1878 in the Neo-Gothic architectural style and renovated from 2000 to November 2002. In addition to the chapel facade, the old brick floor, the old stucco friezes, and ceiling decorations were largely restored. The chapel is used as an external branch of the registry office.
The von Langen family remained owners of the estate until 1945, then the Parow estate, along with the manor house, was expropriated by the land reform and passed into the possession of the municipality. After the war, it served as accommodation for numerous refugees. This was followed by use as a kindergarten, a grocery store, and a community hall.
Next to the manor house is an extensive landscape park from the mid-19th century.
The most famous castle owner was Carl-Friedrich von Langen, Olympic champion in dressage in 1928.
