Othenstorf Manor

The manor house of Groß Siemen, a majestic building with a rich history, stands as a testament to bygone eras. Its foundations were laid in the 14th century, and since then, it has undergone numerous transformations and expansions, reflecting the architectural styles and tastes of its respective inhabitants.

The current appearance of the manor house is largely shaped by the renovations of the 19th century. The two-story building impresses with its neoclassical facade, adorned with elegant pilasters and decorative elements. A striking feature is the central avant-corps, crowned by a triangular gable, which gives the building a stately and symmetrical appearance.

On the ground floor, large arched windows allow plenty of light into the spacious rooms, while the upper floor features rectangular windows that emphasize the classicist character. The roof, a hipped roof, is covered with red tiles and completes the harmonious overall picture.

Surrounding the manor house is an extensive park, which was probably laid out in the 18th century. It invites visitors to stroll and linger with its old trees, winding paths, and picturesque views. Although the park has changed over the centuries, it still retains its original charm and offers a tranquil retreat.

The history of the manor house of Groß Siemen is closely linked to various noble families who owned and shaped it over the centuries. The first documented owners were the von Bülow family, who held the estate from the 14th to the 17th century.

In the following centuries, the manor house changed hands several times, passing into the possession of families such as von Plessen, von Hahn, and von Oertzen. Each family left its mark, contributing to the architectural and cultural development of the estate.

In 1922, the estate was owned by the Diestel family. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

After a turbulent history, the manor house of Groß Siemen was extensively renovated and restored in recent years. Today, it serves as a cultural center and event venue, hosting concerts, exhibitions, and other cultural events. Parts of the building are also used as a hotel, offering guests the opportunity to experience the historical ambience up close.

The manor house of Groß Siemen is not only an architectural jewel but also a living testimony to history, which continues to tell its stories today.
