Mötzow Manor

Mötzow is probably the oldest place in the municipality of Beetzseeheide. It was first mentioned in 1161 as Mukzowe. This place became the cathedral chapter estate of Mötzow. The buildings of this estate form the village. The estate was mostly managed by tenants.

The castle or manor house was built in 1894 by the tenant Friedrich Sander. He and his descendants managed Mötzow from 1853 to 1945. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed and expelled by the communists. The Brandenburg Cathedral Chapter had to take over the management of the estate itself in 1945 to retain ownership of the estate. From 1882 to 1962, a distillery was the economic backbone of the estate.

Since October 2001, the estate has been handed over to a new tenant. This tenant operates a multi-fruit farm (asparagus, strawberries, cultivated blueberries, potatoes, and grain) on 1,220 hectares of cultivated land, with direct marketing on the estate. The estate has become an adventure world with a farm shop, petting zoo, gastronomy, and art mill.

Since February 2009, the Cathedral Chapter Estate has housed the Ostalgiemuseum, which moved from Steinstraße in Brandenburg, with loose exhibits from everyday life in the GDR.
